Have you folks ever read Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind? Oh man, it is sooooo good. The movie’s pretty solid, but it really only reflects a tiny part of his sprawling, six-volume post-modern eco-apocalyptic epic, which I’m not embarrassed to say rivaled Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings in blowing my mind.
Pictured here is Kushana, princess of the Torumekian Empire, who like many of Miyazaki’s characters has a complex and pragmatic morality that is neither clearly good or evil. But she is undeniably fierce, noble, and powerful as she works to retain her country’s place in a dying civilization.
Even if you’re not a fan of manga (I’m not), seriously, look up this series, it easily holds its place as compelling, genre-defying literature.
That armor! And yeah the book is amazing.

*Hello, ladies, look at your scientists, now back to me, now back at your scientists, now back to me. Sadly, they aren’t me, but if they studied chaos theory, they, uh, probably could talk like me.
Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a car with a man your man could talk like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s a glass of water which will help me explain chaos theory to you. Look again, the theory is now the best joke in the movie.
Anything is possible when your man is a chaotician.
I’m on a table.
